How hard is it to install integrated handlebars as a home mechanic? Once again, I've jumped into the deep end of bicycle maintenance and mechanics. This time, I'm replacing my handlebars with narrower 38cm bars due to a recommendation from my bike fitter. How I Trained For My First Ultra Distance Bike Ride
It never gets easier, you just get faster
This ride is a great destination ride. I start in Alhambra and make a good morning of it. A good and fun challenge!
Awesome narration and humor. Had me cracking up. 😂
Hey Mitch. Nee viewer. LOVE the channel. Do you still need to fuel with carbs if sticking to zone 2 ? Probably a dumb question but. 😂😂
Yep! Even on a precisely executed Zone 2 ride you are never exclusively burning fat. I usually have 30-50g of carbs per hour on easy endurance/zone 2 rides.
that handle bar bag is killing your aero gains
I’ve been waiting for this comment ever since I realized I had left the bar bag on… right after finishing that second climb 😂😭
The bar bag is a perfect inbuilt excuse though - I see this as a chance to try the climb again so we can compare the difference it made 😂
@@gregsmith5571True! Maybe one day when I forget about how hard it was to ride with EJ for a week 😂

Great vid. Add fructose vs glucose discussion nxt vid pls. Glucose to blood. Fructose 10g/hr converts to glucose by liver? So u have a full glucose drink. I.e. never use powered. They use 100% fructose (hfcs). Gatorade uses sucrose = 50/50glu to fru.
Yeah, this channels the real deal. Just subbed. I have my first gravel bike that I'm picking up this Saturday, coming from riding mountain bikes for the last 6 years, channels like these are what I need to be surrounding myself with. Cheers! 👍
Congrats on the new bike!
I wear thongs which leave me at a disadvantage .
Sebastian Vettel knows so much about shoes!
Clearly you have taken the Red Pill, Mr. Anderson. For the rest of us, with the Hank Schrader profile (see “Breaking Bad”) the biggest problem is not grams-it’s pounds. I’m not going to tell you my sad story but, suffice to say I’m not seeing a multi-thousand dollar BICYCLE or thousands more on kit and trainers and trips to exotic locals just to turn pedals-in my future. So my advice…get on whatcha got, where ya got it and get going. Pretty much what you did originally. Some variation of the Red Pill will ensue naturally. Two disconcerting things on a bike path… 1-Old Geezers In Lycra. (OGILs) 2-Anything electric or God Forbid, gas powered. Come for the CARDIO not a ride.
As a person who owns most of the local KOMs Dont come my way!
Agree that saddle should be a number 1 upgrade. Stock saddles are a gamble for most people and you simply won't be able to put out power or put in the training hours if you're suffering in the saddle. I made the mistake of buying a saddle online based partly on looks and it's now at the top of my upgrade list. Will definitely be trying out several at my local bike shop before shelling out for the next one.
I have a BMC Roadmachine 61cm but am suspicious maybe it's too big for me. I too am long legged and short torso. The bike fitter moved me down to like a 90cm stem from the 120 it came with but the seat post is up a normal amount of height. I always wondered if the 58 would have been better but the stack drops down 34mm on that one. I assume you ride a 58CM frame?
My BMC is a size 56. I'm 6'1" (1.87m). Each fit is different-- II could technically fit on a 58, but I tend to prefer smaller frames because I have long legs and relatively short arms.
What brand is the bike with the pink fork? That is stunning!
SF Bay Area has way more stable weather and immense options for riding and elevation gain. And it never gets scorching hot like it does in LA.
Bay Area significantly windier and colder and gets way more rain … La has multiple climbs that go above 5k some even up to 6-7k which can’t be said for the bay
Is that 15g of glycogen per kg correct? At 80+ kg that means I have 1.2 kg of glycogen stored in my body.
How do you like the new SunGod glasses? Are the lenses good enough for bright/sunny conditions?
I love 'em, and haven't had any issues on super sunny days! The only time I use the regular lenses is if I'm on an afternoon ride and I know I'll be done before the sun goes down--mostly because I feel guilty that they're underused lol
Silca sealant will seal anything, including your valve cores. 😓
No! Too much of a faff. Clinchers and TPU tubes, job done
I ride 20" bmx and I ride a lot in the city and urban area with a lot of ups and downs. I carve my front wheel left to ride pretty fast going up hill and it helps ALOT
22 seconds ?! That's huge ! Congrats
Well done!
Thanks for the video, hope you enjoyed the training camp. I did a couple when I was 17 and racing, loved it. Now at 30 I'd love to go do one soon. Have fun in Europe, got a lot of fun climbs ahead, take care 👍
Thanks!
Great production and story telling as usual. Go get it Mitch!
What mount for the insta 360 are you using on the aero bars to get the outfront shot? thks
It’s a ball head clamp that I got off Amazon to try out, but unfortunately it’s not very stable. I had to constantly adjust it and I wouldn’t recommend it. The most stable mount I’ve found is the Insta360 Seat Post mount, but it only attaches to round bars so I have to cheat it by mounting it to the drops. That’s how I get the side view shots. There will be a bit more detail o the setup in the next video
@@MitchBoyer thanks for the reply. I do the drops cheat too, and the lack of attachment for aero bars is a common complaint.
Incredible stuff, well done! 👏
Every manual drivers worst nightmare🫣
Well, no doubt, your video is better than mine, you are a better rider than me - but your hill is not the steepest, sorry ua-cam.com/video/CIHC_vFtQ1U/v-deo.html
Danny part brought a lump to my throat being an avid cyclist myself if my legs didnt work it would be devastating
You gotta roll into those segments at like 20+ mph. Otherwise you hemorrhage time from the start.
Nice SunGod sunglasses, do you have an affiliate link with them?
Thanks! If you want to use it, the SunGod link in the description let’s them know I sent you :)
@@MitchBoyer FYI the link sent me to their UK website, hope you got a cut off my order :)
@@RylHango appreciate it dude!
I started wearing lycra for the dissipation of sweat and no other reason. I didn't even care about aero when I started wearing it, I was far too slow to care AND I was riding an ebike at the time, but I had a massive issue with sweat (and still do) which lycra helped with quite a lot. It also allowed me to carry clothes with me on my ride if I got too hot or cold, normal clothes are bulky and heavy in comparison.
thanks I had the same bike, definitely need this
you should do it next year and not hold back. you got the clean finish now with a decend result in group 2 and now next time you can go win it or bin it! amazing work. just watching it on my phone makes my legs cramp up
Bring back Dave!!!!
6:19 is funny lol, he knew was he was about to say but didn’t truly understand until it was actually said. Haha
Pos 266 out of 33000 is hugely above average dude! Think glass half full, not half empty. That effort is insanely good!
Thanks man! It’s good to step back and see the big picture like that-hard to do when I spent the week with stronger riders who were ripping my legs off 😂
I couldnt agree more! Side note, what glasses are those ?
SunGod Velans!
I always appreciate that you include metric units in your videos!
I wish we used the metric system here 😭
Me too!!
As a clydesdale rider (6' @ 250 average), I respect that I am already a huge sail-= but I also ride in some hot and open spaces for extended rides. My average ride is currently 40 miles at roughly 3-4 hours riding. I have recently started wearing summer hoodies and, while they flap around, I feel like the lower exposure to the sun along with the fact that there is no "form fitting' jersey options for a dude who wears XXL-XXXL in biking clothing.
great video man!
7:40 - Genuinely curious... what does the standing on one leg help with?
Oh, it's a timelapse of me doing leg raises, but it does look like I'm just standing on one leg 😂
Funny, a week ago I was looking at PJamm's top 10 hardest climbs. For one I was thinking wtf?! 😮 the whole time. 2 I thought "I wonder if Mitch will try any of these?" I got my answer. Good luck and I am looking forward to this.
You’ve become the same as every other fitness UA-camr ultimately. Gained some popularity, started shilling products and have become and advertising channel.
